This project creatively converted an existing two-story theater building to a five-story self-storage building. Highland Engineering prepared structural drawings, completed gravity and lateral analysis and design of the proposed building and improvements to the deep foundation system. The foundation system required supplementation and a new design to accommodate the additional floors. We identified a foundation contractor who effectively completed the new foundation work. Some design challenges were presented in that the building owner wanted to keep the existing exterior walls of the facility. Our engineers were able to develop a shoring scheme that permitted the proposed construction while maintaining the integrity of the existing building.
